(Nashville, Tennessee...Press Release) - July 26, 2017 - When Kory Caudill began making plans to record his second album, he knew the focus had to be on one of his strongest passions - his home state of Kentucky and specifically the area surrounding his Prestonsburg roots. The aptly titled Song for Appalachia EP features six songs old and new and was produced by Sean Truskowski and Caudill.

"When I set out to make my new record, I knew I wanted to focus on where I'm from in Appalachia," said Kory. "For the music video to the title track, we wanted to highlight the things that make eastern Kentucky special."

Kory turned to fellow eastern Kentuckians to lend vocals on three of the cuts on Song for Appalachia. Singer/songwriter Josh Martin sings "The Way Back Home" and "Teardrop Inn," and Jerica Blair brings in a stellar rendition of "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue." Kory and the Fine Southern Gentlemen round out the collection with the rousing "Bourbon and Boogie" and the contemplative "Wish I Could Stay."

Steve Martin Returns with ‘The Long-Awaited Album’ due September 22nd

(Press Release) Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers will release “The Long-Awaited Album” on Rounder Records/Decca Records on 22nd September. “The Long-Awaited Album,” Martin's newest collaboration with the Grammy-winning North Carolina-based  band the Steep Canyon Rangers, is full of stories that mix humour and melancholy, whimsy and realism, rich characters and concrete details. And lots of banjos.

That instrument – so dexterously, even acrobatically picked and strummed – is just as crucial to relating these new tales as the lyrics themselves, each chord and riff revealing new depths to Martin’s narrators and to his musical talent. Produced by Peter Asher, the new album is a collection of 14 stunning new songs including the boisterous and humorous new track “Caroline," the deeply romantic tune “All Night Long,” and the fantastical song “Santa Fe,” which showcases the lively dynamic between Martin and the Rangers.

Virtuoso guitarist & singer-songwriter unveils beautiful new country song and video
London-based American singer-songwriter Rodney Branigan returns with the release of his brand new single One Seed. The emotive, timeless song was inspired by the celebrated musician’s birthplace of Amarillo, Texas and showcases his liquid fingerpicking and heartfelt vocals.

“One Seed is the most personal and honest song I have written. ‘Where I’m from, the trees don’t grow up and down because the wind blows so, and the seedlings fly away’ was a line that I wrote in my journal in a moment of homesickness for my hometown of Amarillo” explains Rodney. “The High Plains is a place where life can be very hard. It’s unbearably hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and the wind there is famously harsh and constant. Trees don’t really grow there naturally and the ones that arrived with the settlers grow in a bent way towards the east. When I was a teenager, I couldn’t get away fast enough to start a life of my own. I travelled the world over and lived in major cities, but when asked I still say home is Amarillo. I came to realise that the hardships of that place and that life was the stuff that made me who I am, and I learned with time to be grateful.”

Fri., Aug 25th
Rough Trade

64 E. 9th Street, Brooklyn
Showtime: 8 p.m.
Tickets: $20 - $25

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Press Release) — Rejoice, rock ’n’ rollers: San Francisco’s Flamin’ Groovies are returning with Fantastic Plastic, an all-new album of high-energy, pop-inflected original songs that bring together the band’s prime movers of the ’70s, singers-guitarists-songwriters Cyril Jordan and Chris Wilson for the first time in 38 years.

Produced by Jordan and Joel Jaffe (who also contributes guitar) mostly at Studio D in Sausalito, Calif., and due Sept. 22, 2017 on the band’s own independent imprint Sonic Kicks Records and Severn Records (through MRI and RED Distribution), the collection features 10 fresh compositions co-written by Jordan and Wilson, plus covers of the Beau Brummels’ “Don’t Talk to Strangers” and NRBQ’s “I Want You Bad.”

The set reconvenes the driving forces of the Groovies’ storied Sire Records lineup, which cut the widely admired, warmly remembered magnum opus Shake Some Action (1976) and its follow-ups Flamin’ Groovies Now (1978) and Jumpin’ in the Night (1979), which fused the band’s ‘60s-bred rock classicism with the new-look voltage of punk rock.

Jordan and Wilson parted company in 1980, and both men went on to enduring work as keepers of the rock ’n’ roll flame — the former with the Groovies and his successor act, Magic Christian, the latter with England’s Barracudas and his own solo albums.

Song Premiere: Eliot Bronson "The Mountain"

7/26/2017

Singer-songwriter Eliot Bronson, who has won first-place honors at both MerleFest’s Chris Austin Songwriting Contest and Eddie Owens Presents “Songwriter Shootout,” is gearing up for the August 25th release of his new album, James. The eight track collection, produced by Dave Cobb, offers songs that are similar to snapshots - capturing moments, yet often revealing something deeper. One such song, “The Mountain,” is a mid-tempo ballad whose grandeur delivers a powerful message, but ultimately leaves it to the listener to decipher its meaning.

"I’m taking these chains off of me
I’m gonna climb up where I can see
I’m gonna get ready for the mountain

Been carrying more than my share
Circling roads that go nowhere
I’m gonna get ready for the mountain"

Bronson says of the song's origins, "It came out of a particularly difficult year. I really don't have the stomach for the level of nonsense that the music industry often demands. There's a big part of me that wants to quit the game and go live in a Himalayan cave. It's about that longing to walk away from all the BS. I think a lot of people probably feel that way sometimes."

Led by Bronson's honest vocals and a spacious melody, "The Mountain" was a song that was fairly easy to record. Bronson notes, "We recorded this whole record "live" in the studio - everyone playing together. We probably did 5 or 6 takes and just used the best one. It was all very organic and real."

He further adds,

"I try to make art....I try not to get too caught in any fixed ideas of who I am, as and artist or otherwise. I've found that my best and most interesting works comes when I surprise myself. Sometimes when I'm writing a song I feel like it already exists somehow, and I'm just the first one who gets to hear it."

With the album release drawing near, Bronson finds himself preparing for a busy Summer and Fall saying, "
I'll definitely be touring all over on this new recording, starting with the East Coast in September and October. Always writing new songs. I'm working on a TV script with another songwriter. Staying busy. Anything can happen."

TDC is proud to premiere "The Mountain," above.
