ASHEVILLE, NC (Press Release)-- The Honeycutters  are excited to announce they will be back in the studio in January to record their 5th studio album to be released later in the year as the band’s third release on Organic Records. Nashville’s Music City Roots’ Craig Havighurst says of principal songwriter and frontwoman Amanda Anne Platt, “She’s soothing (even in the hurtin’ songs) and sobering (except for the drinkin’ songs) and nuanced in a way that I think tops even those rather famous ladies of the moment named Margo and Kacey… I’d be hard pressed to find a finer string of recordings from any band working in the classic country/mountain tradition in these last five years.” Along with Platt, The Honeycutters are  Rick Cooper (electric and upright bass),  Josh Milligan (drums and vocal harmonies),  Matt Smith (pedal steel and electric guitar), and T al Taylor (mandolin).

They have been touring with their latest album  On The Ropes  which came in at #35 on the Top 100 Albums played on Americana Radio in 2016, spending nineteen weeks on the Americana Radio Chart peaking at #10 and remaining in the top twenty for 11 weeks. The album debuted at #39 on iTunes Top 40 Country Chart on Release day, #12 on Amazon's Hot New Releases on Folk, #11 on the EuroAmericana Chart and landed in the #1 position on the Roots Music Report Country Chart.

Helping to carry them into the new year, The Honeycutters have signed on with The WNS Group, a music management, promotion and publishing company headed by 50 year industry veteran Brad Hunt. The management division proudly represents Steve Forbert, Sonny Landreth, Tim O'Brien, Martha Scanlan and now The Honeycutters.

Whitney Rose Announces 2017 South Texas Suite UK Tour

Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Whitney Rose has announced the release of new EP South Texas Suite on January 27th 2017, plus a UK tour including headlining London’s Green Note on May 27th . The six song EP follows Rose’s 2015 critically acclaimed record Heartbreaker of the Year, produced by Raul Malo of the Mavericks; which was awarded Country Recording Of The Year in 2016 at the East Coast Music Awards in Canada. The breakout album presented Rose’s vintage countrypop influences, converting critics with its beguiling blend of then and now. South Texas Suite, however, sees Rose go it alone.

A recent move from her native Canada to Texas for a two month residency at Austin’s famed Americana bastion, the Continental Club, Rose describes as ‘lighting a fire in her’ and she felt compelled to stay. Quickly becoming smitten with Texas and fascinated by the two-step dance culture, Rose found herself writing non-stop leading to the creation of the self-produced EP. South Texas Suite became a good old fashioned love letter to the Lone Star State; a touch nostalgic, deeply romantic and defiantly personal. South Texas Suite is a meticulous study of sound and place; the work of an artist who is both an insider and an outsider, an observer and a maker, a listener and a storyteller. The year also saw Rose tour extensively throughout North America, make her European debut, plus tour with Sam Outlaw. A  UK tour awaits for spring of 2017 (full tour dates below).

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Press Release)— Singer/songwriter  Vivian Cook  will release her debut album, The Long Shot, produced by  R. Walt Vincent (Pete Yorn, Liz Phair, Tommy Keene) on  Omnivore Recordings, on  January 27, 2017.

Vivian Cook is blessed with a powerful voice backed by an equally powerful rock ’n’ roll band. Her lyrics and melodies make one believe she’s twice her age of 25. That’s because she’s lived a lot of life in those short years. Cook grew up in Palo Alto, Calif., and graduated from Georgetown University with degrees in theater and theology. She then moved to Los Angeles to record The Long Shot, named after the subject of the e-mail Vivian sent to producer R. Walt Vincent asking if he would like to work with her on it.

SONG PREMIERE: Chris Stalcup and The Grange "I Hate Christmas"

12/19/2016

For many, the holidays are simply not as merry and bright of a time as they are for others - especially if you’re still getting over someone. Chris Stalcup and The Grange capture this sadly relatable sentiment in their new tune, the appropriately titled, “I Hate Christmas.” Written by Stalcup, the shuffling melody of the track (with a nice touch of accordion and sleigh bells) pairs well with Stalcup’s raspy delivery in which he’s resigned to be alone, and lonely, while at the same time being fully aware that he’s partly to blame for his situation.

It may not be filled with holly jolly, but it’s loaded with truth, honesty - and maybe even a little hope. Listen to "I Hate Christmas" in full below. Purchase  the track  here.

"You know I can't complain
I'm pretty sure I am to blame
'Cause I hate everything
And I hate Christmas
And I hate New Years Eve
And I ain't got a reason to put up a Christmas Tree
It all just reminds me how lonely this life can be
And I'll hate Christmas - until you come back to me"

Kasey & Tara's Top Five of 2017

12/18/2016

As we have done for the past few years, Kasey (who runs Hitting All The Right Notes) and I  put our Top 5 albums side-by-side so you can get a glimpse at two differing lists. Take a look-see and let us know what you think!

Tara: As always, for me, a great album is one that stirs something deep and moves me emotionally; reaching in and drawing out feelings whether it's pure joy, big crocodile tears or something in between. Like last year, I listened to my fair share of albums, both for review and pleasure; so in order to narrow down the pool,  there were no live albums, EPs, reissues, or compilations  included in this  list. The albums you find below all had that special something that drew me to listen to them consistently and repeatedly.

1. Sean McConnell (Self-Titled)
The accomplished tunesmith (who has written too-numerous-to-count songs which others recorded) released his self-titled Rounder debut in July. The immaculately produced ten-song collection immerses the listener in McConnell’s honest, emotional songwriting and understated, flawless vocals on an album replete with poignant lyrics and unforgettable melodies that leave you with a palpable sense of McConnell’s gratefulness for the past, happiness with the present, and anticipation for the future. Although the incredibly moving stories are his, they are utterly identifiable and absolutely resonate. Fave tracks:  "Running Under Water",  "Beautiful Rose"

2. Ryan Beaver  'Rx'
Another accomplished songwriter, Beaver's May release, anchored by the hopeful resilience of “Dark” and the melancholy nostalgia and idealism of “If I Had A Horse,” is a collection of songs that are lyrically and sonically compelling, interesting, effective, and universally relatable.  Beaver, who co-wrote nine of the twelve tracks, brings insight to a myriad of emotions including sentimentality, innocence, and longing and merges them with a welcome, edgy frankness; successfully conveying sentiments to either male or female in “a-ha” moments that have you realizing he nailed it.  Fave tracks:  "Rum and Roses", "Gravedigger"
